Welcome to the Technical Theatre Blog

Unit 65 Technical Stage Operations
Hello and welcome to the first posting on the Bradford College Perfroming Arts' Technical Theatre blog. You will find a wide selection of useful website links, video, audio as well as regular news and reviews to support your learning.

The blog site is designed to create a specific resource for you and to support your learning on the technical stage operations unit on the course.

You will be able to (eventually) access all your assignment briefs as well as the specifications too.

In addition, this blog can be used to check call sheets and rehearsal schedules.

Session 1- Lighting a Stage

Today we will be looking at the properties of certain commonly used lights (Fresnel, Profile, Par Can) as well as how to light a stage with a general cover.

I would like you all to complete the online tutorial about lighting the stage. Please click the link below or in the sidebar to access the short tutorial.

I have also provided a link to the Unit I handed out which you can access here or in the sidebar marked exam board stuff. Unit 65 is on page 163 of the PDF file.

Finally, please post a comment introducing yourself and your specific area of interest in the performing arts.

Click on the comment link below.

Hey, Its Hayley :D
I enjoy being a part of the performin arts because there are so many different levels to it, from Divising and Improv with developing your own plays to setting it in your own interpretation. I love being able to change character and researching the characters backgrounds to having your mind set in the right place. I particularly enjoy dark thatre and theatre of cruelty. I dont particularily enjoy comedy "/ <3

Hi I'm Matt. I chose to do performing arts because acting is one of my passions and it is one of the few things I enjoy thoroughly. I like the idea of being able to loose myself in someone elses life for a couple of hours. I like that feeling you get when everything works together perfectly and produces a good show. I like that everbody has their own little input into the show making them feel more connected and devoted to it. Most of all I like being able to see and audience react with emotion and enjoy themselves so much that they feel they are there, but I'm not quite that good at the moment. So I took the course. :)
Also I'm a bit of a joker and sometimes have too much energy so acting is a good release of energy.

Hey there, I'm Giverny.
I love performing arts because it gives me such a buzz to be able to become someone else and have my audience believe that I am that person. It gives me a sense of control which i lack in my normal world of Giverny. Laughing, in my opinion is the most amazing form of expression and I feel that if I can make people laugh with me then I'm making a difference to someones life, even if it's just for a second but I can then turn around and say, "hey, I made them laugh". I did a performance when I was at Footsteps theatre school, it was only a small talent show at Bradford and Bingly arts centre. Me and a few peers decided that we should do our own, slightly more innocent version of The Royal Family Comedy series. We rehearsed and rehearsed until our heads didnt work anymore, then it was time to do the show, infront of maybe a couple of hundred people I sat on a chair in the middle of the stage and we began to act. Throughout the whole performance, the audiance were laughing and to me, that's all I can remember. That's my biggest influence to do performing arts. Hopefully after this course I will be training to be a teacher and show students like myself that anything is possible if you want it enough. xxx
